Day one of our “90 to 6” journey unfolded exactly as… no one expected! We left Calgary bubbling with excitement, our little minivan carrying a whole “universe” of things we thought we’d need. But vanlife doesn’t exactly “indulge” your plans!
So, here’s the rundown: just outside the city, our solar shower’s water pipe orange cap was blown away by the wind. Then there was our rice cooker, which we thought would be a trusty companion, but turned out to be a “foe” to our battery, guzzling more power than imagined. Our DIY dishwashing system proved one thing: “user-friendly” probably isn’t in its dictionary.
Regina’s weather today also decided to “challenge” us with an unexpected chill, reminding us instantly of the warm jacket we “forgot” to take out. Our much-anticipated Starlink decided to be a bit of a “rookie driver,” turning on for the first time but having no clue how to “talk” to the sky. Not to mention our “spice team,” which looked cute and complete with all the essentials like salt, pepper, sugar, fish fauce, soya sauce, ketchup … but turned out to be quite “cumbersome” for our tiny kitchen space when it was time to cook.
Oh, that first night with a hundred thousand “firsts”! If we didn’t write down these little things, we’d surely forget these “laugh-out-loud-and-cry-a-little” moments later. These are the very first bricks building this unique “90 to 6” story.
But amidst all these “surprises,” Canada still treated us to breathtakingly beautiful moments. From the golden sunshine, a sudden shower, fluffy white clouds, to the crisp cold of the evening. The natural scenery unfolded before our eyes: cows leisurely grazing in lush green fields, flocks of birds soaring through the sky, birds chirping somewhere in the vast forests, and a vibrant green carpet of vegetation stretching out like a giant rug.
Everything was captured in this very moment. It felt both “a bit off” and wonderfully beautiful. Truly thankful for it all! 🙏
